Honda Odyssey & Legend 2005-2007 recall for Toyota defect

In an interesting twist to Toyota’s latest recall, Honda has announced that it is recalling a total of 470,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to the same failing master cylinder problem that caused Toyota to recall 1.66 million vehicles worldwide a few days ago.

The two carmakers apparently use the same supplier for the brake part. As with the Toyota/Lexus recall, when owners use brake fluid that is not factory-spec, a master cylinder seal may fail, causing a leak that could eventually lead to a loss of braking power, and also cause a warning light to illuminate.

The Honda recall covers the 2005-2007 Honda Odyssey minivan, along with the 2005-2007 Acura RL, known in the GCC as the Honda Legend. They would add up to a handful of vehicles in the GCC.

So far, Honda says that it doesn’t know how many of its vehicles have suffered a master cylinder failure or leak. The U.S. Honda outfit says it will replace the faulty seal and, if leaking has occurred, the brake booster will be replaced as well. At least some owners in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries are likely affected.
