Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen gets 2011 Arabia 100 edition
The longest-serving and most-outdated Mercedes-Benz model series, the G-Wagen, continues to enjoy strong sales around the world, including the Middle East. While its off-road capabilities have little to do with the Gelandewagen’s success, the company is still celebrating its GCC popularity with a special edition exclusively designed for the Middle East, dubbing it the G-Class Arabia 100 Limited Edition.
Limited to 100 units, it is simply a minor makeover, with 19-inch matte-finish AMG wheels, matte-black plastic body trim and a choice of white or black paint. Ironically, it looks like some sort of base model compared to the standard G55 with body-coloured bumpers.
The interior gets two-tone “black and porcelain” upholstery with carbon-fibre and white lacquer wood trim. Additional features include a standard rear-seat entertainment system and lots of badges.
In production for almost 32 years, even surviving an attempted replacement by the lukewarm GL-Class a few years ago, the real G-Class now comes to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Arab countries in long-wheelbase style only, in 388 hp G500 and 507 hp G55 AMG trims. The GCC is apparently the largest market for the AMG model.
