Jaguar XJ V6 2012 base model in UAE & GCC

With a choice of three V8 engines, two of them supercharged, Jaguar apparently were not finding enough buyers for their all-new XJ flagship sedan in “developing” regions such as Russia, China and the Middle East. So as per “demand”, they’ve released a new base model with a 3.0-litre V6 just for these markets.

The 3.0-litre V6 generates 238 hp and 293 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic and rear-wheel-drive. For those keeping track, you’ll remember this engine being offered in the base XF sedan as well, since 2008. For those really keeping track, you’ll know that this engine debuted in the Jaguar S-Type with similar horsepower, as far back as 1999. For those really really keeping track, you’ll point out that this engine is based on a 200 hp Ford V6 motor from the much-hated 1996 Ford Taurus. Of course, the motor has gained its own version of variable-valve timing since then, offering better fuel economy and a better power spread across the rev range.

The 2012 Jaguar XJ 3.0 is capable of 0-100 kph in around 8.5 seconds and consumes a rated 10.9 litres/100 km, with a top speed of around 235 kph.

Prices start at Dhs 279,000 for the Luxury trim and Dhs 298,000 for the Premium Luxury trim, and it will be available in both regular-wheelbase and long-wheelbase variants. That makes the base model about 20% cheaper than the base V8 model, thereby theoretically increasing Jaguar XJ sales in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other GCC countries.
