Volkswagen Up is smallest car in 2013 VW line-up
The all-new Volkswagen Up, or as the marketeers have dubbed it, the “up!”, is VW’s attempt to make a vehicle that harks back to the original VW Beetle, a car for the masses. The up! will first be launched in the European market in December 2011. There are 3 versions for different budgets and needs. The “take up!” is the entry-level car, the “move up!” is the mid-range one and the “high up!” is the top version. At the car’s launch, there will also be 2 independent models based on the high up!, namely the “up! black” and the “up! white”.
While we refuse to name this car with an exclamation mark from this point on, the Volkswagen Up is powered by a new 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. The two variants have outputs of 59 hp and 74 hp, burning as low as 4.2 litres/100 km and 4.3 litres/100 km, respectively. Gas-powered and full-electric versions will follow later.
Unique features for the small 4-seater car include the optional City Emergency Braking that automatically brakes to reduce accident impacts, the Dash Pad that matches the body colour, and a mobile Portable Infotainment Device (PID) to organise the navigation, telephone, information and entertainment features. There is also some sort of “ParkPilot” feature that controls the car’s distance to the next vehicle.
It is unlikely that the Volkswagen Up will be offered in the Middle East, at least for now.

The front and the wheels look painfully out their time. Not my idea of “retro.” On the other hand, the rear and interior is pretty much perfect in terms of style. The colours on the inside is pleasant to the eyes yet classy – not too much, not too little.

Remembered Juke dash color when i saw the maroon dash in up. Is this new concept under trial, having shiny dash with plastic material.

I like it, doesn’t look too feminine or too anonymous.. If I want a cheap car with character, this is my choice..
