Unique McLaren X1 Concept revealed

Ever fancied a life where you have so much of wealth to spare that you want everything around you, including your car, to be unique enough to boast your individuality? If you do have that kind of money, and if that unique car which you fancy happens to be something like a McLaren, then fancy no more – McLaren Special Operations, the division of McLaren Automotive responsible for bespoke projects, can realise your dreams, just as they did for an anonymous client of theirs, by building an exclusive model perfectly designed to match the client’s desires, and calling it the X-1 concept.

The customer, who also owns a McLaren F1, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and a McLaren MP4-12C, wanted a unique car which was as capable as the MP4-12C, but exhibit a “timeless and classical elegance”. Several classic and vintage cars were used as inspirations for the design, including the 1961 Facel Vega, the 1953 Chrysler D’Elegance Ghia, the 1959 Buick Electra, the1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K and the 1971 Citroën SM. On the request of the client, there was even a design competition held between designers around the world and McLaren’s own designers, which was ultimately concluded when the design submitted by one of McLaren’s own designer was finalised.

While the X1 shares a majority of the mechanical components with the McLaren MP4-12C, including the twin-turbo 615 hp engine, the exterior appears to be a complete remake for the most part, perhaps the most interesting bit being the enclosed rear wheels as requested by the client. The interior is clad in Harissa Red Nappa leather.

There is no word on how much the McLaren X1 would cost its owner, nevertheless this distinct McLaren example is definitely going to make its owner proud.
