Abu Dhabi introduces Lykan Hypersport police car
Abu Dhabi Police has, shall we say, “borrowed” the W Motors Lykan Hypersport for use as a fully-liveried police car in promotional activities, similar to what the Dubai Police has been up to for the past couple of years.
The mysterious Lykan, whose claims to fame are a Dhs 13 million price tag, diamond-encrusted headlights and an appearance in Fast & Furious 7 rather than any proven performance credentials, is said to be “the Middle East’s first supercar” and will be limited to seven units.
Captain Ahmed Abdullah Al Muhairi, Chief of the Traffic Safety Section at Abu Dhabi Police, said that the objective behind displaying the car at public locations is to “raise awareness among young people and to send a comprehensive message to families and segments of society; to boost their traffic safety culture; acquaint them with the risks associated with traffic violations and accidents; and to encourage them to co-operate with the police in their effort to reduce accidents through innovative methods that highlight the negative effects of not adhering to traffic guidelines, laws, and instructions.”
Abu Dhabi Police had recently displayed a Rolls-Royce Phantom police car at a number of shopping centers to promote their Gulf Traffic Week activities, and continue to use a couple of Chevrolet Camaros, a Nissan GT-R, a Polaris quad bike and the Harley Davidson in police colours at events.
