Fiat Tipo Estate and Hatchback debut in Geneva
Fiat expands their affordable Tipo range of cars by adding two new models at the Geneva Motor Show. The Tipo estate and hatchback were displayed at the Fiat stand. Both of the models look similar to the sedan model currently on sale and if they stay true to the affordable nature of the sedan, they should deliver some good bang for the buck.
The Estate model gains the required traits of a proper station wagon — a longer roof, wiper on the rear window, roof rails and obviously, a bigger trunk. The hatchback looks sportier than the sedan. The boot space of the hatch back is not announced yet, but it is definitely smaller than the one in the sedan which measures 520 litres.
Inside the cabin, the Tipo gets the same contemporary Fiat treatment as seen in the sedan. A single pod instrument cluster holding a larger MID, 3-spoke steering, Bluetooth controlled music system are all a part of the package. In the range topping models, a UConnect Infotainment system is also made available.
The Tipo will have four 4-cylinder engines in 5 states of tune on offer which consists of two petrols and two diesels. The petrol engines available are the 95 hp 1.4 litre, 120 hp turbocharged 1.4 litre and the 110 hp E-Torq 1.6 litre. A 1.3 litre engine producing 95 hp and a 1.6 litre engine producing 120 hp cater to the oil-burner market. The Tipo can be equipped with a 5-speed or 6-speed manual or a 6-speed auto box according to the engine and trim you opt for.
The Tipo sedan debuted at the Dubai Motor Show late last year and should arrive in GCC showrooms by late summer this year, but we don’t expect the wagon and hatchback to be offered here any time soon.
