2017 Mazda CX-4 crossover launched in China

Mazda unveiled the 2017 CX-4 crossover at the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, in a surprise move that no one expected. The “coupe-style” crossover is exclusively for the Chinese market, which is even more surprising.

The CX-4 shares the same wheelbase as the CX-5, and is just as wide, while being longer in length and shorter in height. It even shares the 2.0-litre or 2.5-litre 4-cylinder ‘Skyactiv-G’ engines, mated to 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

With no rivals in the mainstream segment to speak of, aside from maybe the Nissan Juke, the CX-4 seemingly takes on more premium cars such as the BMW X4, the Audi Q3, the Infiniti QX50 and the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe. From what we’ve seen in other Mazdas, the CX-4 should be a legitimate alternative to the base versions of those cars.
