2018 Opel Crossland X debuts, coming to UAE

Opel’s upcoming acquisition by the French company PSA (which owns Peugeot and Citroen) has given the ailing GM-owned German brand a new lease of life. However, Opel is already on a roll this year with new model releases, revealed a new addition to its lineup at the recent 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The Crossland X, as it’s called, will join the Mokka X in Opel’s crossover portfolio.

Just by its looks, the design has nothing to write home about, but it still manages to stand out thanks to some funky detailing. The black roof and the chrome slat that runs along the upper window line gives out an impression of a floating roof.

The interior offers a decent design that is not as funky as the exterior. The driver gets access to 24-hour emergency services and Opel Onstar Advisor if she/he wants to book a room or find a parking space. Other features includes a panoramic glass roof, adaptive LED headlights, head-up display, and a 180-degree panoramic rear view camera. Opel hasn’t cut corners with the safety as well. The Crossland X can be ordered with a large list of safety systems like Advanced Park Assist, Forward Collision Alert with pedestrian detection and Automatic Emergency Braking, Driver Drowsiness System, Lane Keep Assist, Speed Sign Recognition, and Side Blind Spot.

There are five engines to choose from. The base 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is a naturally aspirated unit which generates 81 hp. The other petrol engines are turbocharged versions of the same 1.2-litre three-pot with outputs of 110 hp and 130 hp. The 110-hp variant can be had with a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The 130 hp version can be had only with a 6-speed manual. There are two diesel engines on offer too, with outputs of 99 hp and 120 hp.

The Opel Crossland X is expected to be offered in the UAE by the end of the year, following the launch of the Mokka X a few months ago.
