Dubai Autodrome UAE 2009/2010 racing calender

As the start of the 2009/2010 fast approaches there is one man who is looking forward to what is in store for local UAE motorsport. Dubai Autodrome Chairman Saeed Khalfan is enthusiastic about the prospects, attempting to develop and promote UAE national-level motorsport at Dubai Autodrome. This forthcoming season, events range from karting through to the newly introduced UAE GT Championship. Along with the UAE Sportbike Championship, the UAE Touring Car Championship and the GulfSport Radical Cup, local competitions move up a level. At karting level, there is the Sodi World Series (SWS) sprint races in conjunction with the Dubai Autodrome Motorsport Club (DAMC) Championship and the Nivea for Men Endurance Challenge.

The action gets underway on Friday, 11 September 2009 at the Kartdrome with the first round of the DAMC Karting Championship and SWS Sprint Race event. For the DAMC series we will see the country’s best young talent, established drivers and even veterans doing battle in what is one of the most competitive forms of motorsport to be seen anywhere. The SWS races are invitational events pitting the top leisure karters in a series of races. These will be run over six rounds during the course of the 2009/2010 season.

Also on the Kartdrome agenda are two more 2009 Championship rounds of the iconic Nivea for Men Endurance Challenge – 24 hour endurance kart races – which will feature the best karters in the region, along with top international competition in what has become a mainstay of the karting scene in the UAE. The first round of the 2009 Challenge was held earlier this year at the Kartdrome.

On Thursday 1 October 2009, across the boulevard on the main track, the business of UAE National Racing gets underway with the UAE National Race Test and Media Day. Here we will get a glimpse of all the main runners in the country’s blue chip road racing categories: UAE Touring Car Championship, UAE Sportsbike Championship, GulfSport Radical Cup and the much talked about, newly introduced, UAE GT Championship. The test day will allow drivers and teams to show off their 2009/2010 programmes to the assembled media as a prelude to the opening round of the series two weeks later, on Friday 16 October 2009. This is when things will get mighty serious as the expectations for the forthcoming season as big teams and top drivers are set to do battle. Among these should be at least 20 UAE nationals, lining up on the various grids, gunning for the coveted UAE national titles.

Also on the Dubai Autodrome’s busy calendar are international races which are currently being negotiated. Information will be made available once these matters are finalised.
