Long-term update: Honda S2000 goes in for major service
Our Honda had its last major service at the end of last July. Here’s what it costs at the dealership.
The “40k” major service was done at 25,356 km, and included replacement of the coolant, gear oil, cone-style air filter, a/c filter, wiper rubber only, DOT4 brake fluid, engine oil and oil filter, for final bill of Dhs 1900.
But wait, there’s more. Just before we went in, we received a random dealer offer via email for an oil and filter change for free, worth Dhs 300. So deducting that, our final bill was Dhs 1600.
The car runs better after the full fluid change, and we drive it more nowadays after we sold our manual Toyota FJ Cruiser, making the Honda the only manual car in our fleet right now.
It’s amazingly fun in the current mild-winter weather we are having in Dubai right now, as we always leave the top down while driving. If you have one, just let the engine get up to temperature first, as it takes quite a while at night, before you let the 9000 revs rip.
After a few bursts of hard runs at midnight, it was great to see everything under the bonnet hold together well, even after 10 years. Usually it’s age rather than mileage that takes a toll on under-hood components in our experience. The only concern was oil stains on the engine’s red valve cover, but it looks more like the dealer spilling oil on it rather than a leak. There is no oil loss, so we’ll just keep an eye on it.
