Czinger 21C enters hypercar scene with 430 kph top speed
Hypercars from unknown manufacturers arrive at the motoring scene every now and then. Most of them get a lot of limelight but fail to sustain popularity over time. But some, like Koenigsegg and Pagani, had made it big. Now, a manufacturer from California has introduced a new hybrid hypercar that has some pretty mind-numbing numbers. Weirdly named Czinger 21C, this hypercar has a racing heart.
The Czinger’s body is entirely sculpted by aerodynamics and downforce, so it isn’t easy on the eyes. But the real business happens under the skin. The 21C sports a hybrid powertrain with a twin-turbo 2.88-litre V8 engine as its main heart. The small capacity engine with more cylinders and a flat-plane crank should be quite rev-happy. The engine revs up to 11,000 rpm, which is usually a motorcycle number.
The engine is hooked up to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Everything works in tandem with two electric motors, one for each front wheel. This makes the Czinger 21C an all-wheel-drive hypercar. The motors feed on Lithium-Titanate batteries which are known to have faster-charging properties than Lithium-ion batteries. The powertrain churns out a total of 1,233 hp which is enough to power the 21C from 0 to 100 kph in a mere 1.9 seconds. The top speed is an astronomic 432 kph. Also, the 0 to 400 kph run will take only 29 seconds, 2.5 seconds faster than the Koenigsegg Agera RS. These numbers are all claims by Czinger. It is left to be seen if they will be able to take these digits off the paper and on to the tarmac.
The sheer pace of the 21C comes not only from the power it houses but also the weight, or the lack of it. The hypercar tips the scales at only 1,250 kg due to the generous use of carbon fibre and other materials. The 21C also gets a race version which takes the weight down even further to 1,218 kg. The race version also gets revised aerodynamics. The rear wing generates 790 kg of downforce at 250 kph, which reduces its top speed to 380 kph.
The Czinger 21C was supposed to be at the display of the canceled 2020 Geneva Motor Show so it must be seen when they reveal it in its flesh. Only 80 of these will be made, and some should show up in the UAE eventually.
