2022 Genesis GV70 debuts as the luxury brand’s second SUV

Hyundai’s luxury arm, Genesis, is undertaking a complete portfolio overhaul that included the recently launched G80 and G70 sedans, along with their first SUV, the GV80. Now they’re adding a second SUV to the lineup, the smaller 2022 Genesis GV70. The GV70 flaunts their new signature design language whilst adding its own twist to the looks.

The Genesis GV70 is handsome with likely the best application of the Genesis’ new design language. The design is like that of the G70 sedan and is more adventurous than the slightly more mature G80 and GV80. The front end is adorned by the large shield-shaped grill that is flanked by the split horizontal headlight units. For the ones who are dazzled by chrome, there is a GV70 sport version that gets blacked-out details accompanied by oval exhausts.

The GV70 signature touches emerge once you look at the sides. The C and D pillars are sharply raked to form unique-looking rear quarter glass areas. The rear is very coupe-like, fitting right into the ‘in’ trend of “SUV coupes,” but doing it far better than BMW or Mercedes-Benz.

The interior of the Genesis GV70 utilises similar handsome flowing lines as the exterior. A long oval cutout section of the dashboard houses all the controls, providing a neat look. A large 14.5-inch touchscreen sits on the dashboard for the infotainment duties while another 12.3-inch display is employed as the digital instrument cluster.

The engine details of the Genesis GV70 are still behind the curtains but it’s safe to guess that some or all its powertrains will be shared with the GV80 SUV. The base models may get their potion from the 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine producing 300 hp. The 370 hp 3.5-litre V6 from the GV80 may be the mill for the top trims.

The 2022 Genesis GV70 has the design to stand out and be noticed. How it drives and how well it does in the tough luxury segment remains to be seen. Expect a UAE and GCC debut sometime in the later half of 2021.

  1. Very neat execution. Rear has a passing resemblance to the Porsche Macan though in a good way. Going by past Genesis trends, I’m sure they would have used premium materials inside the cabin. What needs to be seen is the overall interior space, particularly leg space in the rear. The drive and handling hopefully are good for the vehicle that appears to have the right proportions. It does have a premium look.

  2. That interior is so sleek…better than mercs

  3. Beautiful SUV, any idea of the price??
