Bentley Continental Flying Spur 2013 Overview
The Continental Flying Spur was launched in 2006 as the 4-door version of the Continental GT. It is also their first sedan model ever to feature all-wheel drive, which is no surprise, since it uses the same platform as the unloved VW Phaeton. However, this Bentley does not skimp on luxury, with a handcrafted wood and leather interior, complete with all the requisite gadgets. Standard equipment on the Spur includes HID headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, keyless entry and ignition, rain-sensing wipers, powered trunk lid and a choice of 16 colours. On the inside, one has a choice of 17 colours for the leather-appointed interior with matching carpets and seatbelts. The cabin features steering-column mounted shift paddles, sunroof with electronic sunshade, DVD navigation, six-CD changer and Bluetooth. Almost all seats feature lumbar massage, memory and heat settings. Options include a choice of three 19-inch wheel styles and a 20-inch wheel and tyre package, ceramic brakes, and the sunroof can be had with a solar panel to power ventilation fans to maintain interior temperature when parked, a full-length centre console and numerous trim choices. Convenience options include a cordless privacy handset with keypad in centre console, a rear telephone system, and a rear-view camera. The Continental Flying Spur is equipped with the full suite of passive safety equipment, including two front airbags, four side airbags and two side curtain bags. An unnoticeable facelift came in mid-2008, as well as a new Flying Spur Speed variant, adding more power, while improving performance and handling.
Bentley Continental Flying Spur 2013 Reliability & Resale Value
Reliability | |
---|---|
Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Reports of built-in antenna and heating elements in rear window failing, which requires entire rear window to be replaced by specialists at great cost. VW-sourced Bluetooth system does not detect many phones or drops connection. The air suspension wears out, causing failure and requires replacement. Otherwise, the Continental GT is proving to be very reliable, although long-term durability of complicated gadgetry is questionable, given VW's past reputation. |
