Lincoln Navigator 2004 Overview
The Navigator is the Lincoln-badged luxury version of the Ford Expedition, a full-size 4WD known to be smooth, stable and refined for the most part. Heavily redesigned for 2003, its four-wheel-independent suspension is sophisticated, providing better on-road ride and handling, while low-range gearing is available for off-roading. The standard engine is a 5.4-litre V8 engine mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox. What the Navigator does best is move large quantities of people and gear, with its perfectly flat cargo area and third-row seat, with the ability to carry up to eight passengers. The interior was different from its Ford cousin, with faux satin-nickel trim and real wood inserts. Other features include optional HID headlights, 18-inch wheels, optional power-folding running boards, power liftgate, leather seats and wood trim. The optional navigation system was integrated with the audio system controls. Multiple airbags and a tyre-pressure monitor were standard for 2004, with Roll Stability Control an option.
Lincoln Navigator 2004 Reliability & Resale Value

Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Truck-derived engine and gearbox are durable. The a/c may sometimes stop working due to the evaporator icing up, requiring installation of a thermostatic switch. The original brake pads cause excessive dust, but redesigned pads are available. The rear wheels may chatter during tight turns, requiring installation of a revised clutch pack in the limited-slip differential. Water seeps into headlights, and needs to be sealed with silicone. The retractable running boards sometimes don't work because either dirt collects in their tracks, or the motor and linkage fails, or the security system is simply malfunctioning. Vibration and droning sounds from the front axles during deceleration means new clutch springs are needed for the front differential. Random electrical issues with early models, such as problems with door locks, stereo, sunroof and power tailgate. |
