Seat Ibiza 2003 Overview

The Ibiza is based on the VW Polo and is the hatchback variant of the Cordoba. Though similar to the Cordoba, it somehow appears a lot more sporty than the dull Cordoba, and the engine choices here carry forward that notion. In the Middle East, this front-wheel-drive is offered in three-door or five-door body styles, with numerous VW-derived powerplants, including a 1.4-litre, a 1.6-litre and two turbocharged 1.8-litre units, all 4-cylinder engines, with some manual and some automatic transmissions available, depending on model. Standard equipment includes ABS brakes, driver and passenger airbag, power steering, power front windows, electric mirrors, remote central locking, 15-inch to 17-inch wheels, CD stereo, height adjustable front seats, split rear seat, cloth upholstery, traction control and even an optional stability control system. These cars are quite well-packed with features for their size. Sport and FR models get larger alloy wheels, stiffer suspension, body-colour rear spoiler, sports seats and unique exhausts as standard. The limited-availability 3-door Cupra gets the top turbo engine and further sports tuning.

Seat Ibiza 2003 Reliability & Resale Value

Reliability

Known Problems Plastic timing belt pulley on 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre engines fail, so timing belt, tensioner and pulley should be changed every 4 years to avoid engine damage. VW-sourced turbo engine suffers from occasional ignition coil failure, although redesigned coils supposedly rectify problem. Creaking front suspension reported. Failure of mass air-flow sensor seems common. Moisture enters headlights and tail-lights. Numerous electrical problems as cars get older, including dead electric windows, broken door locks, faults with immobiliser in keyless remote, permanently-on brake lights, loss of power due to EGR valve problem, failing power steering, and random faults with a/c, radio and airbags. Various rattles due to loose cabin trim.
