Porsche Boxster 2005 Overview

The redesigned Boxster roadster was introduced in 2005, with mildly-updated carryover engines until the 2007 model year. Considered the entry-level Porsche offerings, the cars are powered by a 2.7-litre version of the traditional Porsche flat-six engine in their base trim, while the higher-performance S versions are powered by a 3.2-litre version of the sixer. The Boxster are considered a benchmark for sports-car handling, with rear-wheel-drive and a choice of either a manual or a manually-shiftable automatic. It is generally accepted that it is more engaging to drive than a 911. Standard features include power windows, electric mirrors, 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels, among other luxury options involving leather upholstery colours and cabin trim materials. The Boxster offers head airbags in combination with thorax airbags, concealed on the outer side of the backrest, alongside the usual front airbags, while stability control and ABS are standard. Luggage space is very limited, with two trunks, one in the front and one behind the mid-mounted engine in the back. The Boxster can be ordered with a removable hard top to further stiffen the body. Wheel sizes range from 17-inch to 19-inch. PASM active suspension was optional.

Porsche Boxster 2005 Reliability & Resale Value

Reliability
Resale Value
Known Problems Dealer maintenance extremely expensive. Various convenience features, activated by pressing buttons on the key, may turn on unintentionally, so some dealers were instructed to deactivate them or change the system of pressing buttons. Dealers were also instructed to replace a faulty clamp on the exhaust hanger. In early models, rattling noises are caused by loose nuts on the stabilizer-bar links. An unknown percentage of M96 engines suffer from intermediate shaft failure, a design flaw that destroys the engine with little warning. Another possible problem is the rear main seal leak that can cause oil loss and damage the engine, requiring pricey replacement.
