This VW marks the return of the Jetta nameplate to the Middle East, replacing the Bora lineup. However, it could have been better. Engines choices include a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder unit and an odd 2.5-litre 5-cylinder unit that is conspicuously underpowered for its size. Both engines are equipped with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or the new 6-speed Tiptronic automatic. The Jetta GLI debuted later in 2008, with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine and 6-speed DSG automanual gearbox. Volkswagens are known for better-than-average handling, and the new Jetta is said to be no exception. The new Jetta is larger than the previous Bora, and it features a more spacious interior stuffed with convenience and lavished with Volkswagen's attention to detail. Even the least-expensive model offers an elegant, high-quality cabin. Standard equipment include power windows, AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo, power outside mirrors, split/folding rear seats, remote central power locking, front airbags, side-impact airbags, ABS brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, and available electronic stability control. The GLI exclusively gets black-out body trim, 17-inch wheels, and a slightly-upgraded interior.
