Dodge Dakota 2005 Overview
The Dakota is a mid-size pickup with a full-size attitude, as Dodge likes to brag, and they are not far from the truth. The Dakota is the largest pickup in its class and the only mid-size truck available with a V8. The Dakota looks big, thanks to a complete redesign recently, making it larger than before and making it look almost as big and tough as the full-size Dodge Ram. The standard engine is a 3.7-litre V6. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission. An optional four-speed automatic is available on the higher trim levels. A 4.7-litre V8 engine is available for all models. A "high-output" version of the 4.7-litre V8 is also available on the higher models. With either V8, a six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a five-speed automatic is optional. Two available transfer cases, either full-time or part-time, are available on the 4WD models. Available steering wheel mounted audio controls allow easy control of the standard AM/FM/Cassette radio or the optional AM/FM/CD radio with eight speakers.
Dodge Dakota 2005 Reliability & Resale Value
Reliability | |
---|---|
Resale Value | |
Known Problems | The serpentine accessory drive-belt may make a chirping noise, due to alternator pulley not in alignment with other pulleys, requiring the pulley to be shimmed out. If vehicle has difficulty backing up on a steep hill, reprogramming the powertrain control module (PCM) is needed. Transmission may suffer delayed engagement after sitting overnight due to split in the filter in fluid cooler return line. Snapping or clicking noise from steering column may be due to defective upper bearing retainer. Some report seized brake calipers, broken fuel pump and bearing replacements during warranty period. Airbag sensors, cruise control, stereo, ABS and lurching automatic shifting, all reported. |
