BMW 7-Series 2010 Overview
The fifth-generation BMW 7-Series was launched for the 2009 model year, returning to form as an attractive full-size luxury sedan, after years of looking like a troll in its previous generation. The first models to be launched include the standard-wheelbase 740i and 750i as well as the long-wheelbase 740Li and 750Li. The long-wheelbase 760Li came in 2010. Most GCC dealers import only the long-wheelbase version of all the models. In a misleading move dreamt up by retarded marketeers, the 740i and 740Li are now powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-6 engine, instead of the V8 that the badge implies. The 750i and 750Li are now powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, although the 760Li moniker is accurate, with its 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12. The 730i and 730Li models debuted later in 2010, with naturally-aspirated 3.0-litre inline-6. Badge deception notwithstanding, all engines are capable performers, featuring Double-VANOS variable valve technology, direct injection, and a 6-speed automatic for all except the V12, which comes with an 8-speed automatic. The range now comes equipped with EfficientDynamics technologies as standard, all aimed at improving fuel economy. All 7-Series can now be specified with a side-view camera system, Park Distance Control, two forward-facing cameras, night-vision system, a pedestrian recognition system, blind-spot warning, a heads-up display, speed-related active steering, variable air-suspension damping control, stability control, hill-start assistant, ABS, brake drying, brake-fade compensation, iDrive with larger 10.2-inch screen, instrument cluster with a high-resolution colour display, navigation, 8 GB hard drive, rear-seat DVD entertainment with integrated screens, four-zone automatic air-conditioning, multiple front and side-curtain airbags, optional rear-seat ventilation system with massage function, and other electronic gimmicks. All the usual luxury basics are obviously also included, such as leather, power accessories, sunroof and 18-inch alloys.
BMW 7-Series 2010 Reliability & Resale Value

Resale Value | |
Known Problems | Check for random electrical issues involving in-car gadgets or drivetrain sensors, sometimes fixed with software updates. Check for prematurely-worn brakes and suspension bushings. Some BMW owners complain of car not starting if left undriven for a week. The 7-Series is not part of high-pressure fuel pump recall affecting other turbo models, but check working condition anyway. Not all problems affect all owners. |
