Castrol celebrates launch with contest
Motor oil giant Castrol is celebrating its the first anniversary of its Middle East launch of Castrol EDGE synthetic engine oils with a competition. For a chance to win prizes, including an XBox, people should visit www.castroledge.ae between 8th July and 15th August 2007.
Now more on the oil itself. The new Castrol EDGE range apparently deals better with scorching summer temperatures, like what we experience around here. Castrol EDGE underwent a series of exhaustive tests which saw it reaching 340 degrees C, far hotter than even a domestic oven. There is a tiny video of all these “tests” on that competition website.
The burnt metal and plastic parts were filtered out and the same oil was pumped into a small can and sent to some independent test laboratory to go through the toughest European industry high temperature test. After 72 continuous hours under 150 degrees C oil temperature, Castrol EDGE passed all industry tests again.
According to Castrol, independent tests also showed that Castrol EDGE flowed up to twice as fast through engines even under freezing conditions of up to -15 degrees C. Although we don’t have to worry about that around here.
