2009 Volvo XC60 unveiled for Geneva
The 2008 Geneva Auto Show is nearing, but Volvo jumped the gun and revealed their all-new XC60 compact 4WD softroader. Quite possibly based on some Ford platform, the 2009 XC60 is admittedly aiming for a small niche market among Volvo fanboys, if there is such a thing.
Volvo’s CEO himself has vaguely stated that this is the car he hopes Volvo C30 buyers would aim for when they grow up.
For the American market, the only engine available will be a new 281 hp turbocharged inline-6, with standard all-wheel-drive. Other mechanical details are sparse, but we expect other countries to receive smaller optional engines too.
The car will feature all of Volvo’s latest safety systems, including excessive airbags, stability control, automatic braking and blind-spot warning systems.
With its Lexus-like front end and big-butt rear-end, it has the Land Rover LR2, the Mercedes-Benz GLK and the BMW X3 in its sights.

I already own an XC90 and am quite pleased with it, but was toying with the idea of upgrading to a larger engine (the V8). Does anyone know how much smaller this will be and when it’s expected to be out in the UAE? It looks a bit nicer than the XC90, but there is also talk that the XC90 will get a facelift in 2009. Comments??
