Le Mans winner to race Ginetta in Dubai 24 hour

A former winner of the 24 Heures du Mans will take part in Dubai’s premier endurance race this weekend as part of a three-car Ginetta team.

Ginetta, one of the most complete and highly regarded British motorsport marques, will field a line-up for the Dubai 24 Hour race which features its own Global Sales Ambassador, 2006 GT2 Le Mans winning driver, Richard Dean. The team will race two Ginetta G50s and a fire-breathing Ginetta G50Z, which uses a potent 4.0-litre, 400 hp, V8 engine and has stormed to 3 victories in the invitational class of the high profile British GT Championship.

“I can’t wait to race at the Dubai Autodrome in the G50Z,” said Dean. “The car is perfect for endurance racing and will prove to be a tough challenger for the other teams in the race.”

Ginetta, which has been building racers in Britain for the last 50 years, recently became available in the Middle East through GulfSport Racing, and its cars are purpose built for the circuit, needing no race modifications after leaving the factory. One car is currently taking pole positions and winning races in the UAE GT Championship, held at the Dubai Autodrome, while a second will join it at the next national race meeting at the end of January.

Ginetta and Dubai-based GulfSport have worked closely to develop the G50 HC, a hot climate version of the G50, which is built to withstand the heat of racing in the Middle East, Asia and other tropical climates.

“It’s great to have Richard Dean in Dubai this weekend, especially with his Le Man winning experience,” said Barry Hope, GulfSport’s director of sales and racing. “We started selling Ginetta cars last year and have been racing a car in the GT Championships. That has created a lot of interest in the brand and we have sold cars off the back of it. I think it’s going to be an interesting race weekend for the team, especially with the changeable weather.”

All Ginetta cars come fully race prepared at the factory, allowing racers to compete without having to add expensive and time-consuming modifications. Importantly, the G50 has extremely low running costs when compared to other purpose-built racing cars and converted road cars.
