Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 boasts largest engine in range

Porsche announced the launch of its all new Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, a street legal variant of the 911 GT3 track-only race car. According to Porsche, the model, which is limited to just 600 units, shall debut boasting the biggest engine among the entire 911 series – a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre 6-cylinder horizontally-opposed motor rated at 500 hp at 8,250 rpm and 460 Nm torque at 5,750 rpm.

The engine is said to be having the same crankshafts as in the racing car’s engine while the forged pistons’ connecting rods are made out of titanium. The car can only be had with a 6-speed manual transmission exclusively designed to cope with the fury of the powerful engine.

Porsche claims that the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 can do the 0-100 kph in just under 4 seconds from standstill and crosses 200 kph in under 12 seconds. It has completed a lap around the famous German Nürburgring circuit in 7:27 minutes -– well ahead of Porsche’s own 911 GT2 and 911 GT3 RS 3.8 while trailing behind the Lexus LF-A and the Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec.

In pursuit of achieving stratospheric driving dynamics, Porsche has designed the GT3 RS 4.0 using lightweight components such as bucket seats, carbon-fibre bonnet and front wings and plastic rear windows to ensure optimum weight reduction, while using suspension components from the racing car itself. Other characteristics include low center of gravity, large rear wing and an aerodynamically-optimised body. The lateral front air deflection vanes, first on a production Porsche, increase downforce on the front axle. Also aided by a steeply-inclined rear wing, aerodynamic forces exert an additional 190 kg ensuring the 911 GT3 RS 4.0 is glued to the tarmac.

The 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will be available for sale in the GCC in July 2011, with a base price of Dhs 682,000.

Keep track of UAE prices and GCC updates in the Porsche 911 buyer guide.

  1. would still prefer a gtr

  2. Porsche has so much versions of the 911 that i’m sure even die hard porsche fans will be having a hard time keeping track

  3. i love gt3 but the price is insane .. id stick with the 911 turbo S if i wanted power and reliability.Porsche are going crazy with all these 911 models . its kinda confusing to decide on one.

  4. They reached 4.0 already! Porsche engines growing bigger and bigger i see… Nevertheless, the GT series still sell better than any of their cheaper or more exotic counter parts.. Cuz nothing is like a Porsche, seriously..

  5. What makes the gte so great? It’s a very fast indeed but its also like a hooked. Cheaper than others, only good for one thing, and you cant bring it every where you’d bring a Porsche. The gtr is for those who can’t afford a porsche. Lol!

  6. I have a GTR and am sure it is quicker than this RS 4.0, but it is never as pure and as special, regardless how I have come to love the Nissan. And that’s why I have made the downpayment for the RS…

  7. cool cars can i have one 4 5 dollors

  8. hope u can talk 2 me soon
