Taxi fares to increase in Abu Dhabi from May

Silver-cab fares in Abu Dhabi will be increased from the 1st of May this year. This would mark the second increase in taxi fares, the last one being in 2010.

During the daytime, between 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, passengers will be charged Dhs 3.50 instead of Dhs 3 as a starting price, with an additional Dhs 1.6 instead of Dhs 1.33 for every kilometre covered. Even worse, for long-distance travelers, the per-kilometer fare will increase to Dhs 1.69, once it crosses 50 kilometers. Fortunately for pensioners and people with special needs, the long-distance travel rates are reduced by 50%.

If travelling after 10:00 pm in the night, the minimum fee is fixed at Dhs 10 for any journey, even if the actual cost for the distance travelled would charge lesser.

As if increased fares are not sufficient, to add more to the starting and per-kilometre fare, if the vehicle has to wait for more than 5 minutes, customers will also be charged 50 files per minute of wait.
