“Saudi drifting” teen killed after crashing into truck

Nicely-edited “Saudi drifting” videos always make it appear like nobody gets hurt as so-called skilled drivers do their thing in public streets. But things do go wrong on a regular basis. An 18-year driver in Saudi Arabia was killed recently when he rammed his Hyundai Elantra into a heavy-duty truck while doing illegal stunts in traffic.

The incident, which happened in the outskirts of Riyadh, was caught on video by one of the onlookers. From the clip you can see the Saudi teen sway his car sideways at very high speed. The car loses control and jumps onto the opposite lane with oncoming traffic, and bangs into the truck. Police say the teenager was killed instantly by the strong impact, while the truck driver escaped from any injury.

Better known locally as “hajwalah” or “tafheet”, where the car is intentionally spun several times at speed of 180 kph or more, this form of reckless stunt-driving is strongly condemned in the Kingdom with strict sentences for drivers involved in fatal accidents. In June this year, a Saudi youth was sentenced to death by beheading for killing two people while spinning his car near Riyadh. But it continues to be a popular sport among bored young adults in the country.

What do you think?

  1. hahahaha … liked the “bored young adults” part

  2. are u retarded? nothing funny about death

  3. ITS WIRED ITS IS FUNNY I GUESS …BCOZ THEY ARE GENERATING MONEY FROM EXPATS ..SO THEY HAVE FILTHY WEALTH AND NOTHING TO DO ..NO TENSIONS AND NO COURAGE TO GENERATE ANY KING OF LIVING EXPENSE.SO BASICALLY IF THEY CHANGE THEIR PATTERN OF CIVILIZATION AND MAKE THEIR YOUTHS TO STRUGGLE AND SEE HOW EACH PENNY IS EARNED,RATHER THAN GIVING THEM LUXURY CARS AND WEALTHY LIFE .WAKE UP ARABS

  4. an empty mind is the devil’s home… that what the problem is with majority of the youth there

  5. Crazy Youngsters

    • What would you expect in a country where even movies are not released? Forget about nightclubs.

    • Nightclubs and dirty acts are not very imprtant.

    • Allowing nightclubs and movies in KSA is not the solution nor the reason behind such activities.
The arabs are given a greater status there and more money hence the teans dont struggle trying to earn a living. They are catered for by their parents till they are married and live off their family money even afterwards. Nothing wrong with that, but there needs to be a balance. I agree with Abdurehman, that night clubs bring more trouble than good. If you give these people night clubs, you will be hearing about drunk driver accidents every other day. It has more to do with their lifestyle. Education is their only solution.

This is just one incident, many many have happened before. Regardless its a shame that this young man lost his life this way. RIP

    • I’m not talking about nightclubs. I just meant that the youth in Saudi need some form of entertainment to keep them off these dangerous acts.

Having money doesn’t make anyone the happiest person in the world.

  6. oh well thats one down.. he wont be bothering any one..good riddence

imagine if truck had been nissan sunny or yaris with kids..

    • that is exactly the point!! fully agree

of course, a tragic death, but i can feel only very limited sympathy due to his complete ignorance for the lifes of others. hopefully a few lessons learnt

    • You guys are stupid , why are happy for someone’s death, you should feel ashamed. He lost his life. Hope other will learn

    • @Abduraham

Are we stupid?… no but the joker who got him self made into an omellete sure is…

are we ashamed?… what for?… that is one trouble maker down

    • What he did is wrong , but you are not allowed to laught and make a mockey of dead person.

You should be ashamed because , you are talking a hero about a dead man, why do you pull yourself and go talk to those drafter and say to them what said here.

We are not animal , someone did something wrong they were punished , there is no need to make a mockry of them. Period

    • why do you pull yourself and go talk to those drafter and say to them what said here*****

RE: and why would i do that? ….. do think they are civilised and listen?…. do this kind of stunt in a civilised western nation and just watch what police will do to you

  7. When a Trend gets started, specially in youngsters, its like a flood, you cannot stop it.
Only way to deal with it is to change its path.
In my opinion, Saudi govt should declare it as a sport and make clubs for such guys. Those drifting clubs should follow all the safety rules, and no one is allowed to drift outside the club area.
They may also make good money from it.

  8. I was in Riyadh for 2 years and have shifted to Dubai 3 months ago. Young men used to drift on the roads in front of my apartment with complete disregard to the traffic or pedestrians. They just expect that once they begin drifting, others should evacuate the area or bear their expenses(Coz they dont stop after hitting your car).

Moreover, due to the burnt tires, they steal tires from other cars at night. It was really a nuisance, the loud drifting sounds. And strict laws??? Maybe. We had a police station a kilometer away from my home and never saw a car being impounded.

  9. I think the government should declare such deaths as attempted murder and suicide. Because a lot of precious lives are lost due to this stupid act.

  10. Majority of deaths in road accidents are due to show off……thats why allah (swt) prohibited show off….

  11. im so sorry for all of u who wrote comments cause instead of saying god bless his soul u all write bullshit. no im not arab but i dont judge a book by its cover. ye u know u are all perfect (may Allah bless this young man soul)

    • “Don’t judge a book by its cover?”

It’s pretty clear this guy did not care about his life or others. Almost killed the truck driver too.

    • god bless his soul ****

RE: for what?… what if it was your family he crashed into? would you still “say God bless his soul”?????…

i think not… so get off this self serving logic

  12. It is due to boredom.Because unlike jeddah where tuned car shows are held there is nothing in Riyadh. It is not the youngsters fault.May the young man’s soul rest in peace.

  13. It is due to boredom, because unlike jeddah where tuned car shows are held there is nothing in Riyadh,It is not the youngsters fault,I agree with Fuad that drifting should be declared a sport,Because saudi drift is receiving international criticism, the saudis should do it in clubs & not outside,If done in the clubs then it will receive international acclaim, untill then may the young man’s soul rest in peace.

  15. Don’t know anybody noticed, the KIA Optima is without a number plate. Do they do drifting without a plate to avoid being noticed/caught?

  16. Bored and most likely high on captagon pills*…

*google and educate yourselves on drug abusers in Saudi
