Abu Dhabi Police has installed 15 new speed radars in the capital and have been functional since Tuesday.

According to Captain Ahmed Al Muhairi, head of traffic safety of Abu Dhabi Police, more radars will be installed soon across the emirate.

Seven speed cameras have been placed near the entrances and exits of the Sheikh Zayed tunnel, while the rest have been installed alongside Khaleej Al Arabi Street, the Bainuna Street tunnel and the Al Raha beach area.

The speed limit on Sheikh Zayed Street, which extends after Al Sa’ada bridge leading into the main tunnel, is set at 80 kph, and after the tunnel section, it is set at 60 kph.

  2. These radars are capable of finding speeding vehicles in between two cameras.

    • Really? They’ve been saying that all the time about the radars in Dubai. Do you have any idea what kind of a network and processing power it would take to do that? I can’t believe people just blindly believe everything

    • Very Simple, it calculates the time taken to drive between the two radars with that particular road speed limit. If your time is shorter than that, you exceeded the speed limit somewhere between the radars. So the second radar will flash at you even though you reduce the speed in front of the second radar.

    • The manufacturers do offer the capability of acting as average speed limit cameras, but it has never been officially disclosed that the cameras installed here do so. I would imagine that it’d require a fair bit more work to pull off than your regular speed cameras too.
