Track-focused 2014 SRT Viper TA shows up in New York
Less than a year into the debut of the new-generation SRT Viper, the regular models have barely hit U.S. showrooms and Chrysler Group have already brought out a special-edition. The the track-focused 2014 SRT Viper TA is being showcased at the 2013 New York International Auto Show.
Under the hood of the Viper TA (Time Attack) sits a handcrafted, all-aluminium 8.4-litre, mid-front V-10 engine; rated at a maximum output of 640 hp and 814 Nm of torque, making it the most torque-producing naturally aspirated engine in the world.
The Viper TA runs on ultra-lightweight, matte black, multi-spoke Sidewinder II wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres. The dampers, springs and stabiliser bars have been retuned for track performance and a two-mode Bilstein Damptronic suspension system has been added. Also, the standard aluminium structural X-brace has been replaced with a carbon-fibre brace, improving torsional rigidity by 50%. On the scales, the TA measures 1519 kg.
SRT in collaboration with Brembo have worked on the braking system improving thermal capacity and heat dissipation. The brake calipers now feature a black anodised finish with a Crusher Orange Viper logo.
Besides the funky paint job, the SRT Viper TA can also be distinguished by the black 2D TA logos behind both front wheels and a black Stryker logo on the front fascia. The exterior aerodynamics package adds carbon-fibre front splitters, a rear spoiler and a carbon-fibre rear applique.
The standard black interior gets some spice in the form of Crusher Orange accent-stitching on the cloth seats, instrument panel, center stack, console, pull brake, shifter boot, shifter head, steering wheel and upper doors. Occupants will be seated securely in premium ballistic fabric racing seats from Sabelt, featuring a lightweight fibreglass with a 3-point or 6-point harness for racing belts.
Only 33 units will be produced; all will come with an exclusive Crusher Orange paint job and will be manufactured at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, starting in the third quarter 2013. GCC customers will first have to wait on the launch of the regular SRT Viper first, before anything else. And yes, the new Viper is coming to the UAE after the summer.
