2014 Jaguar XJ receives interior and tech updates

2014 Jaguar XJ
The XJ was always elegant and attractive. However with all the new luxury sedans with a host of gadgets coming into the market, Jaguar didn’t want to be left behind and have updated the 2014 model with some extra goodies.

For starters there are new airline-style rear seats with cushion and squab adjustments. And along with them complimenting the long-wheelbase, the seats also recline and massage. There’s also an elaborate version of the massager up-front for the driver and the front passenger. The rear suspension has supposedly also been recalibrated for comfort.

As for technology, there’s a new optional 1330W Meridian sound system with a so called ‘Conversation Assist’ feature that uses microphones in the headliner to pick up the passengers’ voices, which then revamps it as an audio file and plays it through the speakers for the accomplices in the car to understand (Surely, there’s going to be no back-biting). And we couldn’t possibly forget the two 10.2-inch high-definition entertainment units mounted at the back of the front seat headrests.

The engine remains unchanged in the XJ, and you still get an 8-speed automatic gearbox, but this time with a ‘stop/start’ system which Jaguar says “takes less time to restart than it takes for the driver to move his or her right foot from brake to gas.” There will be a 3.0-litre V6 engine running on petrol and diesel, and two supercharged 5.0-litre V8’s.

Expect these additions to make way into the XJ’s sold in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries anytime later this year. We’ve got no official word from the dealers across the region, but the update is due soon.
