Car manufacturers strive hard to achieve best results in car crash ratings, at least when it comes to Western markets. However, it is less of a priority when it comes to cars specifically built for developing countries. And this is ably demonstrated by India’s most trusted vehicle — the Maruti Alto K10.
Let me start off by saying that I was missing in South Korea for the past one week, not for a test-drive event, but to be part of a new programme by Hyundai, dubbed the Hyundai Global Club Invitation. It’s an event that involved flying in around 35 people from 14 countries who contributed to the cause of promoting Hyundai, mostly by starting local Hyundai clubs and such, while a handful of “bloggers” were along for the ride. Somehow I was representing the UAE there, although I didn’t know that when I agreed to go for this trip. When shopping for a hot hatch in the UAE, the VW Golf GTI is on every potential buyer’s shopping list, usually as the only choice. But when shopping for a compact car here, the “regular” VW Golf is never on anyone’s shopping list. In fact, the GTI actually outsells the standard Golf here. The Golf is generally pricier than its rivals, but we’ll see if the extra cost is justified as much as it is in its GTI sibling.
Al Futtaim Motors has just launched the 2014 Toyota Yaris Sedan in the UAE. It gets a completely new exterior design, but under the hood the same engine choices have carried over from the previous generation Yaris Sedan.
Honda has put up pictures and given a slight peak into the details of the upcoming generation of the Honda Odyssey on their website. The variant put up is essentially the one that will serve the Japanese Domestic Market, but it may not be the one that will make its way into the Middle-East.
It’s pretty normal to see car manufacturers unveil one-off concepts to grab the attention of media and viewers at auto shows. And the Initiale Paris Concept is surely Renault’s attempt at it. We’ve got to say, it is a pretty nice addition to Renault’s lineup of concepts, and we wouldn’t mind if it came into production anytime soon.
Infiniti teased us with some sketches earlier. Then just before the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show , the luxury brand revealed the first image of the ‘Q30 concept’ to get everyone buzzing before finally revealing it in the flesh.
The 458 is clearly the prettiest Ferrari in the market, and it’s been further enhanced with a stripe. Or that’s what is visible from the outside. But the 458 Speciale is clearly a special offspring from the Italian supercar maker’s stables, and it made its official debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show a few weeks back.
