Mitsubishi XR-PHEV Concept at Tokyo Motor Show
We can never be too sure, but if this turns out to be the next Mitsubishi Outlander, we wouldn’t be surprised. But for now, it’s given a clichéd boring nickname; the XR-PHEV. In any case, this is one of Mitsubishi’s offerings at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show this year.
By first looks, the XR-PHEV is pretty handsome, bold and certainly urban. But at the same time it will be based on the newly developed FF-type Plug-in Hybrid EV System. That translates to an EV System, which is configured with a 1.1-litre inline 3-cylinder direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC engine. The engine alone churns out an impressive 134 hp, and when coupled with the electric motor, produces 160 hp. The XR-PHEV also automatically selects the optimum driving mode; EV Drive Mode, Series Hybrid Mode or Parallel Hybrid Mode depending on conditions.
Mitsubishi claims that the vehicle will achieve a cruising distance of 85 km, but the 2-wheel drive layout eradicates any hope of a future off-roader. Anyhow, we’ll keep you posted on more news on the Mitsubishi XR-PHEV concept.
