Volkswagen C Coupe GTE concept revealed at Shanghai Motor Show
The Volkswagen C Coupe GTE concept made its world premiere at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show.
Looking at the exterior, the car is about 5 metres long and has tyres wrapped around 22-inch alloy rims. Judging by the size, the production version of this concept should slot in somewhere between the Passat and Phaeton.
The interior looks pretty similar to the new Passat, but it seems less busy inside thanks to the digital instrument cluster and large touchscreen display. There are screens at the back of the front seats for the rear passengers. Back seat occupants also have their own center console from where they can access many of the car’s functions.
Under the hood, the C Coupe GTE concept gets a turbocharged 4-cylinder TSI engine coupled with an electric motor. The petrol engine produces about 207 hp, while the electric motor produces about 122 hp, for a combined output of 329 hp and 500 Nm of torque. Power is delivered via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The concept can do from 0-100 kph in 8.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 232 kph. It can do a top speed of 130 kph just in electric mode. Fuel economy is rated at 2.3 l/100 km and range is about 50 km in electric mode, while it runs about 800 km in hybrid mode.

Very interesting design, looks like a proper new model of the CC and can attest to the CC’s capabilities, as I’m a 1st Gen CC Owner. However I found it a bit confusing, that the 0 to 100kmph is done in 8.5sec for this concept, while the 2.0l CC is rated to do this in a little over 7 sec (not to mention the larger 3.6l CC doing it more briskly).
Lovely concept and hope the production version will retain most of the flair, though I have to admit, the 1st Gen CC still remains charming with its curvy nature, which the 2nd Gen CC and this Concept seem to have lost.
