Long-term update: ZDegree home-delivers new tyres for our Jaguar XK

Jaguar XK ZDegree DriveArabia

It was time to get some new tyres for our Jaguar XK, since the old ones had “expired” as per the RTA. Considering it’s always a hassle to go get tyres changed, we decided to try shopping for tyres online, on the only local tyre site we’d heard of in Dubai.

On the ZDegree website, we found a selection of tyres that matched our car, but then we called them up directly and got a different selection of tyres to choose from. We actually wanted Michelins, but they were not available in the required size so we went with whichever good brand was available at the lowest price.

They had Z-rated Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT “max performance summer tyres” in stock, and we were surprised by the price for low-profile 20-inchers. For two 255/35 front and two 285/30 rear tyres, the price came up to only Dhs 3700, including on-site balancing. Admittedly, a pair of them were manufactured last year, but that’s still a great deal for premium tyres.

Their tall-roofed van came in maybe an hour, and then their team of two proceeded to swap our tyres over the next hour in the public parking lot below our place. It probably helped that we called them during the “free” parking period between 1 pm and 4 pm, because we don’t know how a RTA parking inspector would’ve reacted to that otherwise.

With fitting and balancing done, both using equipment in their van, we did a final check and found that at least two of our painted wheels had minor surface scratches on them. We were upset to say the least, especially since we’d just gotten the wheels and calipers painted a month prior.

After speaking to someone from ZDegree on the phone, they offered to fix it for us if we drove to one of their locations and left our car there for a day. Considering that completely defeats the purpose of saving time by home-delivering tyres, we just let it go and polished down as much of the minor scratches as we could ourselves. To be fair to them, they caused a lot less damage than some of the other tyre places we’ve visited in the past. And for the price we got, we’d still recommend them.

We got the wheels painted earlier at some garage whose name i don’t remember. Most decent garages should be able to paint wheels. You can google for a place called Automotive Repair Systems that also does smart repairs and wheels.
