Long-term update: Jaguar XK service and parts costs

mash-jaguar-xk

Our Jaguar XK went in for its annual service the other day. We generally take our car in only once a year because we do maybe 4,000 km per year with this car, and modern synthetic oils can last that long without any ill effects, despite what your dealer or your great-granddad told you. Here’s an idea of what the regular cost of running a Jaguar XK looks like.

Mind you, these prices are at a garage called Premier Car Care in Dubai. The dealer charges twice as much on average for most of these items, so we stopped going to them after our first year of Jaguar ownership.

The regular service costs Dhs 1250, which includes a synthetic oil and filter change for the 4.2-litre V8, as well as topping up of fluids and a new air filter.

The rear brakes were worn, so we got them changed at Dhs 350 for the pair and a further Dhs 400 in labour, with disc-skimming for Dhs 400.

The struts holding up the heavy liftback tailgate had also given up recently, so we got those replaced as well, for Dhs 600.

All in all, these non-dealer prices for regular maintenance are the equivalent of dealer pricing to maintain a Camaro, as long as nothing else goes wrong. Our car has been relatively fine for the past year since some major work was done last year. For a further idea of costs, read our previous updates.

  1. Hey mash,
Must say I was surprised to see the price of jags maintenance.
I will like to share a funny experience I had when I serviced my Volvo S40. Cant remember the name of the garage but I asked for regular oil change along with oil and air filter. They completed the service and I was satisfied too but it was later I founded they fitted Audi filters in a Volvo when I had to take car to dealer’s garage. There the advisor told me to not trust any dodgy garages and go to dealer workshop only. I know that advise for minting money from me but you mentioned about “Premier car care”. Do they have parts for other European cars because I found there charges very reasonable and could be even less for Volvo. Please let me know
    Thanks,

I went to the dealer for a whole year as I was hunting for trustworthy garages. Premier Car Care bill themselves as Range Rover/Jag specialists so I started going there now, after trying out a couple of other premium garages as well. I have yet to find a Volvo specialist.

    • I’ve had a similar experience. Took my Lexus IS350 for an oil change service, was fitted with a different Lexus model’s filter. Next day warning light came out showing ‘Low Oil Pressure’ then finally took to the dealer to get it fixed. Turns out the garage did not fill it up with the required amount of oil.

  2. Dhs.33535 spent in for 8829 kms driving? Too expensive to maintain. Certainly for premium class folks.
