Koenigsegg ready for further global expansion
The Swedish super-hyper-mega car manufacturer Koenigsegg recently flew their wares all the way to California to attend the 2016 Monterey Car Week. The arsenal that they packed for the show included the Regera and the Agera XS, both homologated for use in the United States for the first time.
The Agera XS is a U.S. version of the Agera RS. It is named ‘XS’ as per the demand of the single customer who has ordered the car. The Agera RS underwent a few modifications to receive the green light for U.S. sale. Several small tweaks were made to the car’s aero package but the most significant of them all is what Koenigsegg claims is the largest wing ever fitted on a production car. The XS is painted in a special hue of orange called “Karosserie” picked by the customer.
The powertrain remains the same though. The 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8, fitted with a 7-speed paddle-shift transmission, produces a massive 1160 hp. Even after the added aero bits, the XS weighs just 1395 kg, which just a tiny bit more than a Toyota Corolla.
The Regera features a hybrid powertrain that combines a twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors to produce an unearthly 1500 hp and 2000 Nm of torque. The 0-100 kph acceleration run takes 2.8 seconds and 0-400 kph is dealt with in just 20 seconds. The Regera is also fully homologated for U.S. launch and customer deliveries are expected to begin by 2017. Koenigsegg already has a quiet presence in the GCC, with dealerships in Abu Dhabi, a few cities in Saudi Arabia and one in Kuwait.
