Spyker C8 Preliator Spyder revealed

Dutch sports car manufacturer Spyker unveiled the Spyder version of their C8 Preliator model at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The new C8 Preliator came with not just an open top, but also a new business link between Spyker and another low-volume sports car manufacturer, Koenigsegg.

Spyker ditched the Audi V8’s that were used to power their cars, in favor of a Koenigsegg dry sump 5.0-litre V8 that puts out 600 hp and 600 Nm of torque. Koenigsegg has worked on the V8 to suit Spyker’s special needs. Only a manual gearbox will be available with the new engine as Spyker’s “discerning clients have spoken in favour of it.”

The new powerplant propels the Preliator Spyder from 0-100 kph in 3.6 seconds. The top speed is a healthy 322 kph. The 350mm front and 322mm rear vented and cross drilled discs work to rein this firepower.

The Spyker C8 Preliator Spyder is built on a redesigned all-aluminium space frame. It comes with an automatic soft top and a new Ascot Bronze paint coat. The cabin is longer, thanks to the cabrio’s longer dimensions, and is finished in cream leather with honeycomb contrasted stitching. A new head-up display can be used to access applications which include Spotify and Apple Music. The control of this screen is done via “simple, memorable hand gestures”.

Only 100 examples of the Spyker C8 Preliator Spyder will be produced, costing US $429,000 apiece. Some of them should show up on the streets of the UAE and other GCC countries, although we believe the Dubai dealer quit the brand years ago.
