2018 Suzuki Swift Dzire sedan revealed
Based on the popular Swift hatchback, the Suzuki Swift Dzire was a compact sedan that was put on sale in the Middle East for a short period. It has been a while since its discontinuation here due to poor sales but in other markets, it remained a strong seller. And now, Suzuki has introduced a completely revamped Swift Dzire.
Built on Suzuki’s new 5th generation B-Platform, the new Swift Dzire has gone on a diet which shaved off 100 kgs from its weight. This architecture will also be adopted for the construction of the next-gen Swift hatchback, which is yet to arrive. The design has received a complete makeover. The front fascia now has a polygonal grill with the Jaguar F-Type-like LED-projector headlamps placed on either side. Unlike the hatch version, the A-pillars are not blacked out nor does it have a floating roof. Instead, Suzuki has given it a conventional design. The boot is still a stubby bit, but the way it’s integrated to the body is better than the old model. The rear tail lights are connected to each other by a chrome strip. The boot lid has a lip spoiler.
The interior of the Dzire doesn’t look anything like the hatchback. The design is new and exclusive for the sedan. The dual tone interior gets some satin chrome accenting on the instrument panel, gear knob, steering, doors and instrumentation rings. A few wooden finished panels on the dashboard and the flat bottomed steering up the luxury quotient, visually at least. The Smartplay infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay.
The new Swift Dzire will be powered by the existing 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine which will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. In India, where the Dzire has gone on sale, it comes with an Automated Manual Transmission called Auto Gear Shift (AGS). For other markets, it may retain the normal 4-speed automatic. A 1.3-litre 4-cylinder diesel is also available.
Whether it will make a comeback to the UAE or other GCC markets remains to be seen.
