2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 convertible revealed

It took less than a couple of weeks for Chevrolet to come up with a convertible version of the bonkers Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 coupe that they unveiled at the 2017 Dubai Motor Show. The 2017 Los Angeles Motor Show became the venue for the reveal of the first-ever convertible Corvette to wear the venerated ZR1 badge since 1970.

The Corvette ZR1 convertible is just as extreme as the coupe in terms of looks. The ZR1 Coupe’s aggressive front fascia is retained so did the massive hood that houses a slot to see the LT5-V8 engine. A low wing on the tail comes as standard on the Convertible while a high wing optimized for downforce is offered as an option along with a ZTK Performance package.

The Corvette ZR1 Convertible has gained only 27 kilos as it dropped the top because of the already stiff Coupe body. The reinforcements made to the Convertible’s structure were thus limited to the accommodations made for the folding top. The powered top can be operated at speeds of up to 48 kph.

Under the hood sits the LT5-V8 engine that produces 755 hp and 969 Nm of torque. This output makes the ZR1 Convertible the most powerful production convertible Corvette ever. This colossal power is handled by either a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Chevy has promised that the ZR1 Convertible can use this power to scream from 0 to 100 kph in just over 3 seconds and a top speed more than 337 kph.
