Long-term update: Cost of first major service for our Nissan Patrol LE
Our family wagon, the 2014 Nissan Patrol LE, got a major service in late September 2018. Here’s a rundown on how much it costs from the dealer.
For a “40k” service, the bill came up to a sizeable Dhs 3065. This included 5w30 synthetic engine oil, 3 litres of 75w90 “transmission oil” (AED 268 as mentioned in the bill), air filter, a/c filter, gear oil and DOT4 brake fluid.
We also found out that apparently our warranty ran out in February 2018 when we thought we had longer (it’s a late 2014 model), so that means our originally zero-mileage “used” car came with a 3-year warranty instead of the 5-year one that was promised to us (always get it in writing). This also means they refused to replace our fogged-up headlights, and we didn’t even show them the rubber beading around the windshield that was falling off. A polish and some replacement rubber shouldn’t be expensive if we do it on our own dime.
We couldn’t be bothered to argue as we don’t have time for multiple trips to the dealer, and looked forward to ditching the annoying six-monthly service schedule that was required to keep our warranty. With good synthetic oil, you can actually go longer between service intervals if you’re doing low mileages.
Otherwise the car is trouble-free, and it feels good to have a vehicle that you can just jump into and drive without saying a little prayer to start it.

It’s great you have such long commute to work, but many of us prefer staying close to work and dont have to suffer. At least we got cost of major service, minor service and dealer behavior from the stories. Where else u find such info. I say 80k is nothing. I will talk to uber driver if I want real extra long term story.

You guys are a joke , 7091 kilometers in 5 years . I drove that much in two months of owning my 2018 expedition. And that’s not even when I’m busy . So I predict that my odometer will read 216,000 km by the time 2023 rolls around .

I think we all should drive less to reduce pollution, not try harder to drive more.

Guys please continue with your excellent updates. It’s only source of service costs price we have for many cars. Let the complainers complain. All probably using free service package anyway.

I think its way too expensive to maintain the car with dealer for such rarely used car. the price difference when you sell the car doesn’t justify the service cost you are paying now.

Cost is not issue for everyone if they are passion for their car and don’t want hassle. I have a friend who fixes everything at dealer for his 2010 Focus.

A major service isn’t only determined by kms driven but also time elapsed from the last maintenance. For example on an infinity Q50 its either 10000kms or 6months which ever comes first. So you drive this car for 2000kms in 6 months but you still have to take it for a service.

If this was my car it would be minimum 450000 km driven in 5 years by now.
Sal
No you wouldnt, otherwise you would also be in AED 200,000 paying for petrol and I suspect you would’ve given up the car by then.

I didn’t get how this could be 75w90 for automatic transmission ??? This grade of oil use in differentials or manual transmissions but I believe yours is not manual so some mistake. Nissan’s automatic transmission uses “Matic S” oil.

You’re right! Yet the receipt says 3 units of 1-litre Total 75W90 transmission oil. Probably used it in the diff.
Khaled
When is the differential oil changed (front and rear) in Nissan Patrol 2019?

The dealer recommends every 40,000 km.
