2019 Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss and RST regular-cab models are Middle-East exclusives

The all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is officially debuting in the UAE and GCC today. But the most interesting news to come out of the launch are the two Middle East-exclusive models, namely the Silverado Trail Boss Regular-Cab and the Silverado RST Regular-Cab.

The 2019 Silverado is up to 204 kg lighter than its predecessor. GM also claims that the cargo capacity is best-in-class no matter what bed size you choose. It uses a higher-grade steel bed floor, with yield strength increased for optimal strength and mass. It also boasts 12 fixed tie-downs.

To achieve the weight loss, all exterior swing panels (doors, hood and tailgate) are made of aluminium, while fixed panels (fenders, roof and bed) are constructed from steel for added strength. The 2019 Silverado is also more aerodynamic than before, resulting in 7% greater aero efficiency over the outgoing model.

Offered with five engine and transmission choices across the range, including new 5.3-litre and 6.2-litre V8 engines with cylinder-shutoff tech. The 6.2-litre is paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission as well as start/stop technology. Additionally, a 2.7-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine will also be available in the GCC.

Another first is the class-exclusive power up/down tailgate on the 2019 Silverado High Country that can be operated from the key fob, interior button or by hand. Overall, it is 41mm longer, with up to a 100mm longer wheelbase, than the vehicle it replaces.

The 2019 Silverado features a number of standard and available active safety features. It also gets a host of connectivity and convenience features including the Chevrolet Infotainment 3.0 as standard on all trims, along with Apple CarPlay which allows users to connect a smartphone to make calls, send messages and stream music using natural voice commands. Also available are features such as Siri Eyes Free, wireless phone charging and a new connectivity feature that allows occupants to simultaneously connect two phones via Bluetooth.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is now available across the region from a starting price of Dhs 106,800 for the base 2WD work truck going up to about Dhs 220,000 for the High Country crew-cab (with a 6.2-litre engine), while the Middle East exclusive Regular Cab Trail Boss and RST variants (both with 5.3-litre engines) will go on sale in the summer. Additional prices and specifications will be announced at a later date.
