2020 Bentley Flying Spur is bigger and has a new face
Following in the footsteps of the new Continental GT coupe and droptop from 2017 and 2018 respectively, Bentley has taken the covers off their 4-door sibling, the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur. Just like all Bentley generation changes, this too is a spot-the-difference game but with more differences to spot.
“This Bentley is too short,” said no one ever. But Bentley has made the 2020 Flying Spur longer anyway, as it’s poised to take the flagship mantle from the Mulsanne in a year. It now measures at 5.3 metres with a 130mm extension of the wheelbase. The looks of the 2020 Flying Spur is similar to that of the outgoing model but it now sports the new corporate face that debuted with the Continental GT. The Flying Spur comes with LED matrix headlights and 21-inch wheels, and the latter can be swapped with 22-inch designs from Mulliner. The grille gets vertical slats and the body will be offered in 17 colours. The “Flying B” statue on the hood is now retractable and it lights up to welcome the driver when he/she walks to the Flying Spur.
The cabin of the Bentley is where the business happens. There are a whopping 15 colour choices for the hide of the seats. The “industry-first three-dimensional quilting” on the door pads helps ramp up the luxury quotient. There are several veneer options to choose from. If you’re more adventurous, you can mix two different veneers as well. There is a gargantuan panoramic sunroof as well, but it costs extra.
A rotating 12.3-inch touchscreen hides cleanly behind the veneer section that houses the analogue dials for chronometer, compass and outside temperature. There is a 10-speaker sounds system as standard which can be upgraded to a 16-speaker, 1500-watt Bang & Olufsen unit. If this is not enough for the concert that you want to host in the car, there is a 19-speaker, 2200-watt Neim system with active bass transducers incorporated into the front seats.
Powering this mammoth is the twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 engine, with 626 hp and 900 Nm, from the Bentayga Speed. A dual-clutch eight-speed transmission drives this power to all wheels through an active AWD system that automatically adapts the power distribution and delivery as per the conditions. This is enough to propel the 2.4-ton Flying Spur from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 333 kph. Bigger 420 mm discs up front help to rein in this power.
The 2020 Bentley Flying Spur also debuts all-wheel steering in a Bentley and it will help manoeuvre the full-size sedan inside cities with ease. The air suspension is also updated with 60% more air in the air springs which comes with continuous damping control.
The reception of orders for the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur will be started in a couple of months. And if you’re one of those people who wants to be an early bird, Bentley has a reward for you. Enter the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur First Edition. Available for only a year, the First Edition adds many goodies and more exclusivity to the Flying Spur. It comes with 22-inch Mulliner wheels, the rotating display, mood lighting, and a selection of single and dual veneer options, and that panoramic sunroof. It also has the Touring specification which includes lane assist, night vision, a heads-up display, and adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist. To advertise the exclusivity, there are many first edition badges and motifs on the exterior and the interior.
Deliveries for the 2020 Bentley Flying Spur are slated to begin in early 2020 in Western markets, and probably in the UAE and GCC as well.
