2021 BMW 5 Series facelift debuts, looking more like current 3-Series

The BMW 5-Series is a very important car for BMW. The mid-size sedan had a reputation as the “fun” entry in a relatively mundane segment, although it has lost that excitement over the past decade thanks to forgettable design. BMW has now given their existing sedan a facelift, bringing it in line with the latest 3-Series.

The 2021 BMW 5 Series is no revolution when it comes to its design. The LED headlights now follow the lines of the smaller 3 Series, with updated LEDs. The kidney grill has grown but not as much as that of the new 4-Series, thankfully. The taillights get LED lines that make it fall in line with the headlights. Though not much to boast about, these small improvements should keep the 2021 5 Series all kitted up to lock horns with the updated Mercedes Benz E Class and Audi A6.

BMW’s new infotainment system, iDrive 7, sits on the dash with a 12.3-inch display. The driver information system is also a screen of the same size. Connectivity tech like Android Auto & Apple CarPlay gets bundled in as standard.

The 2021 BMW 5 Series comes in with 4 different powertrains including two updated electrified setups. The latest addition to the range is the 48V mild-hybrid system for the six-cylinder 540i model, which still produces 335 hp. But it will be faster off the line with the plug-in-hybrid assisting it at low-revs. The 530e plug-in-hybrid gets a 40 hp bump over the current model. The power output stands at 288 hp along with 420 Nm of torque.

If performance is what you need, the M550i xDrive is the pick for you. It churns out 523 hp and 723 Nm from its 4.4-litre turbocharged V8, shooting the four-door sedan from 0 to 100 kph in 3.6 seconds. This will be the top dog of the range until the bloodthirsty M5 is revealed.

Orders for the 2021 BMW 5 Series are being opened immediately in the United States and the deliveries are slated to begin by July. It should appear in UAE, Saudi Arabia and rest of the GCC showrooms soon after.
