Bugatti Bolide revealed as the craziest Bugatti yet

Bugatti makes bonkers machines that bend the conceivable boundaries of performance, technology, and of course, price. Previously, the company has spawned a list of mad limited edition machinery including the Centodieci, Divo, Super Sport 300+, La Voiture Noire, and more. They have now crafted the craziest of them yet, the Bugatti Bolide, a track monster capable of hitting 500+ kph, at least theoretically.

The Bugatti Bolide is powered by the same 8.0-litre W16 engine from the Chiron. But in the Bolide, the quad-turbos are new, pressing the engine to produce a Centodieci and Super Sport 300+ matching 1,578 hp. This time though, the massive powerplant is engineered to sip on 110-octane racing fuel. With the racing fuel in, the engine churns out a colossal 1,825 hp, along with 1,850 Nm of torque.

Bugatti engineers have also focused on significant weight-saving measures. The Bolide weighs only 1,240 kg dry. As a result, the weight to power ratio is just 0.67 kg/hp. Thanks to the colossal power output and the lower weight, the Bugatti Bolide sprints from 0 to 100 kph in just 2.17 seconds or from 0 to 200 kph in just 4.36 seconds. The top speed is “well-above” 500 kph. Bugatti says that the Bolide can lap the Nurburgring in 5 minutes and 23.1 seconds. The numbers may look a bit too optimistic and they probably are, as they are still simulated numbers, yet to be tested in the real-world.

The Bugatti Bolide’s design is an absolute frenzy of aerodynamic elements, the most notable of them being the prominent roof scoop. The scoop is lined with a “morphable outer skin” that remains smooth when the Bolide is driven at lower speeds but develops a “field of bubbles” once more speed is picked up. The most significant element of the Bolide’s design must be the height of the vehicle or the lack of it. The Bolide measures only 995 mm tall, about 300mm shorter than the Chiron.

Bugatti has announced no price for the Bolide, as they have not decided if they should produce the Bolide for customers. But if they do, expect the Bolide to be tied with a bomb of a price tag.
