Manufacturer recalls for May 2021

The month of May 2021 turns out to be a breather for the automotive scene with just a handful of recalls around the globe. Here is the list.

Hyundai is recalling more than 390,000 vehicles for two different issues in North America. The larger one of the two affects 203,000 Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs made from 2013 through 2015. In these vehicles, brake fluid may leak into the ABS control unit, paving way for a potential electric shock. Dealers will replace the fuse and check the ABS computer. If needed, that will also be replaced. Owners are instructed to park outdoors until the problem is resolved. It is unclear if the recall applies to GCC-spec cars as well.

The other recall from the house of Hyundai affects 2019-2020 Elantras as well as 2019-2021 Kona and Velosters, adding up to a total of 187,000 cars. The 2-litre engine in these vehicles may have improperly heat-treated piston rings. This may not ensure a proper seal and can lead to oil leaking into the crankcase, or even potential engine damage and fires. The improper fitting of the rings can cause them to scratch the inner lining of the cylinders. The engines in these vehicles will be inspected and replaced if necessary.

Ford is in on this month’s action with a recall spanning over 650,000 2016-2019 Explorer SUVs. These vehicles may have roof rail covers that can get separated from the vehicle and fly off if it is on the run. Ford dealers will install new push-pin clips to lock them down.
