2022 Kia Sportage redesign details released

A month ago, Kia previewed its all-new 2022 Kia Sportage crossover. The radical styling of the new Sportage caught the interests of many as it enters a segment that bores our eyes. Now, following this reveal, Kia presents more technical details for the compact SUV.

The 2022 Kia Sportage is shown off in its Korean guise, which features a longer wheelbase of 2755 mm. The new model is longer, wider and taller than the outgoing Sportage. Thanks to the increased dimensions, the 2022 Sportage claims class-leading headroom, legroom and boot space. The design is edgy and bold, fresh air to this otherwise “meh” segment. If you wish to spice it up more, you can opt for either the X-Line or the GT-Line trim. The X-Line adds visual elements that make the vehicle look more rugged while the GT Line gives it a sporty appeal. The alloy wheel designs range from 17 inches to 19-inches, with different designs and colours.

The engine list of the 2022 Kia Sportage is very comprehensive. It has a flurry of petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and diesel options. The petrol engine is a turbocharged 1.6-litre unit, capable of producing 177 hp and 265 Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The diesel mill measures 2.0-litres, and produces 189 hp and 417 Nm. This comes exclusively with an eight-speed auto. Details of the electrified powertrains are not public yet but they will most probably be lifted off the new Hyundai Tucson.

A terrain mode system is now available. There are Drive, Comfort, Eco, Sport and Smart selectable driving modes as a part of it. A new electronic control suspension works with the AWD system for optimizing power delivery.

Expect the new model to start appearing in showrooms by the beginning of next year, if not sooner.
