2022 Lexus GX gets some tech bits and Blackline treatment
The current Lexus GX 460 feels like a creation from the bygone era compared to most of its rivals. With this generation trailing its origins back to the 2010 Toyota Prado, it is in dire need of a complete revival. With the next generation supposedly not coming until 2024, a facelift is the closest to an update we can get.
The 2022 Lexus GX gets special treatment inside out for this update. On its skin, Lexus went to work to give it a Blackline treatment. The Blackline package on the GX adds 18-inch wheels finished in gloss black, blacked-out trims including the grill and fog lamp housing. The body can be finished in three shades, Black Onyx, Starfire Pearl and Nori Green Pearl, the latter of which is unique for the Blackline trim. The interior gets the black treatment too, in the form of matte black ash wood trim. A black headliner rounds up the package inside.
The weak point for the current Lexus GX is its ancient interior. With the 2022 update, Lexus GX gains a large 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa integration. The dashboard gets a rejig to accommodate this large screen.
Under the skin of the 2022 GX 460, the story is quite familiar. It still runs the dependable but aging 4.6-litre V8 motor, which produces 292 hp and 438 Nm of torque.
The update of the 2022 Lexus GX is in no way radical, nor do they make the GX a modern vehicle overnight. But with the newly added tech and its already reliable reputation, the 2022 Lexus GX may be able to last a little longer in combat with its road-friendly rivals.
