2023 Genesis G90 gets a complete overhaul: Ready to fight the S-Class
Genesis has turned their attention towards the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, with an all-new 2022 Genesis G90. The striking sedan will serve as the flagship for the Genesis range with absolute opulence, and a long-wheelbase option
If there is a brand that has made the biggest statement with its design in recent times, it is Genesis. The luxury South Korean luxury carmaker has carved out a striking identity for itself in the last couple of years with the launch of the G80, GV60 EV, GV70, and the G70. The G90, being the big daddy of them all, is no way behind them.
The front fascia is dominated by the “Two Lines” headlights that highlight the sides of that massive shield grill. The massive clamshell bonnet shuts on top of it, giving the G90 a cleaner look.
The 2023 Genesis G90 is a pretty long car but the long-wheelbase model stretches even more. A 190 mm extension sits between the axles, freeing up more room for the legs of the important people who the rear seats will accommodate.
Fighting with the S-Class Maybach and the China-only Audi A8 L Horch, the Genesis G90 Long Wheelbase does have some presence. The massive doors open using flush-fitted door handles. Spicing up the sides are multiple 20-inch alloy wheel designs. The rear gets a wide light bar spanning the width of the Genesis G90. There is another light bar, stretching across the rear bumper’s width.
As you would expect, there is quilted leather everywhere inside the 2023 Genesis G90. All other major surfaces are covered in real wood, metal, or forged carbon. To up the ante, there is hidden ambient lighting, as well as built-in fragrance units. In addition to this, the Genesis G90 offers something called a Mood Curator. This system controls a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, mood lamps, massage seats, fragrance, and electric curtains to “lift the passengers’ mood.”
At the rear, there are two 10.2-inch touchscreens for the entertainment system. If that is not enough, there is an 8-inch tablet inside a UV sterilized armrest box between the rear seats. The interior is coated with a Silver Zinc Zeolite material to prevent bacterial growth.
The seats are called “ergo-relaxing seats”, offering 12 air cells in them to provide massage on the go. They also inflate automatically at speeds more than 130 kph or when in sports mode for more lateral support.
The new Genesis G90 gets a predictive air suspension to provide a supple ride. They pre-emptively jack up the front by 10 mm before they reach a patch of bad road or while descending a slope. If the road is really bad, it will elevate the whole vehicle by 25 mm. To make city driving easy, the Genesis G90 offers rear-wheel steering as well.
Powering the short wheelbase G90 is a 3.5-litre V6 churning out 375 hp and 530 Nm. The V8 is now dead. But the Long Wheelbase Genesis G90 gets a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 mill, but with an electric supercharger. This supercharges compressed air, providing better torque from the get-go and at medium revs. The outputs are yet to be revealed. The LWD model is exclusively offered with an all-wheel drive. Both the models are mated to an eight5-speed automatic box.
The 2023 Genesis G90 will go on sale in its home country in 2022. It will cross the seas to reach other markets by 2023.
