2022 Suzuki Baleno gets updated

Suzuki is not really a big player on our shores despite having a decent economical line-up, with the Jimny for a dash of fun. They have tasted immense success in other markets though, especially in India. One of their biggest sellers, Suzuki Baleno is now thoroughly refreshed to heat up the fight in the hatchback segment.

Just like the new Suzuki S-Cross, the latest Baleno is basically an updated version of the current model. The looks of the Baleno are refreshed with a new larger grill, flanked by updated headlights. There is a new three-point DRL design that Suzuki says will be the signature of their lineup. The taillights also get a change but that is about it.

The interior however, gets a thorough update. There is a new dashboard design with a 9-inch infotainment system located right in the middle. Its budget-friendly tag does not shy Suzuki from adding features like a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display, and 6 airbags.

Power comes from an updated version of the current 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. This new mill gains dual-variable valve timing and dual injectors to hike the power output to 90 hp. The transmission options include a 5-speed manual transmission and a 5-speed automated manual transmission.

Though the AMT is offered in India, it is not clear if they will continue to offer the existing CVT in the international markets. They also manufacture a larger 1.5-litre engine in India for export but do not offer the same in the local market. Other updates include tweaks to the suspension as well as larger 14-inch brakes.

In India, the Baleno has been a smash hit, as a cushy, spacious alternative to the sportier Swift. It has also spawned a rebadged Toyota version called Toyota Glanza but it is highly unlikely that it will come to our markets. The Baleno is here though, and may possibly get updated for the new year.
