Jeep Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L debuts, stretching the big SUVs
The SUV range of every manufacturer is being stretched at both ends. On the big side of things, Jeep debuts the Jeep Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L. They also come with a Wagoneer Carbide edition for some added style.
The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer L SUVs come with a mission, which is to take on the stretched luxury SUV segment, like the Cadillac Escalade ESV and the Lincoln Navigator L. The long L models come with an additional 177.8 mm of wheelbase, and 304.8 mm of additional length. This added metal has increased the boot space over the standard Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer by 447 litres to a total of 1251 litres. Folding the two rear rows can increase it to a colossal 3706 litres.
The exterior and interior aesthetics remains the same compared to the regular models. Both models get seven or eight seats, a 75-inches of total screen estate, a digital rearview mirror, and a large laundry list of other goodies.
To spice up things further, a 19-speaker McIntosh MX950 stereo is offered as an option on the Wagoneer L. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer L on the other hand gets this acoustic system as standard in its Series I and Series II trims. A spicier 23-speaker McIntosh MX1375 system comes standard on the Obsidian and Series III trims of the Grand Wagoneer L.
Under the hood, there are no V8s, unlike the shorter models. A twin-turbo 3.0-litre inline-six Hurricane engine does duty with 420 hp and 635 Nm of torque in the Jeep Wagoneer L. In the posher Grand Wagoneer L, this unit makes 510 hp and 678 Nm. Both vehicles come with an eight-speed automatic transmission. As per Jeep, the fuel efficiency is improved over the big V8s but only slightly.
The Jeep Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L gets all three types of four-wheel-drive systems available with the regular models. The Quadra-Trac I with a single-speed transfer case, and the Quadra-Trac II with a two-speed transfer case and the ability to send up to 100 percent of all the torque to the wheel with the most traction start this range. A Quadra-Drive II gets an electronic limited-slip differential and an electronic system that can predict low traction situations and adjust the torque distribution accordingly. The Wagoneer L gets a Quadra-Lift air suspension as an option while the Grand Wagoneer gets it as standard.
For an added style in the regular lineup, the Jeep Wagoneer gets a Carbide edition that adds black wheels, mirror caps, headlamp trim, and roof rails finished in black. The interior also gets a Global Back finishing for the seats, and the black theme extends to the headliner.
