Third generation BMW X1 debuts with more bling

The compact luxury crossover segment is the hottest it has ever been. BMW X1 is a major player in this segment but the current gen model launched in 2015 is nearing its end of life. Hence, we have the next-gen 2023 BMW X1 that is bigger and more tech-loaded than ever before.

Though the basic proportions look the same, there are some significant changes in the design of the 2023 BMW X1. In typical BMW fashion, the grill grows bigger and blingier. Headlights and tail lights are all full-LED units and they provide the X1 a masculine appeal, along with flared wheel arches. In terms of dimensions, the new X1 is longer, wider, and taller than the outgoing but only by a bit.

The interior sees a big upgrade in the form of an updated infotainment system running BMW’s iDrive 8. The latest software utilizes a pair of touchscreens, a 10.7-inch driver’s display and a 10.25 infotainment screen, both housed under a single pane of glass. This can be paired with an optional 205-watt Harman Kardon premium audio system that gets 12 speakers.

Under the skin, the new X1 gets just a single engine option. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder direct-injection turbo petrol engine comes with an output of 241 hp along with 400 Nm of torque. The transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Some markets also get a front-wheel-drive option as well. Not that it matters to most customers shopping in this segment, the 2023 BMW X1 can rush from 0 to 100 kph in 6.2 seconds.

If you do wish to add some spice to this crossover, you can add in the M Sport Package. This adds paddle shifters for more manual control. A Sport Boost function is also packed in, which gives an immediate boost to the X1 when the driver wishes.
